Life Long Learning (Livingston Center)

Southeastern's Life-Long Learning Program believes in integrating "life-long learning skills" that go beyond specific knowledge or occupational areas.  These transferable skills are essential to an individual's intellectual, physical, and emotional success regardless of occupational of life role.  Individuals will engage in lifelong learning as a means for upward career mobility, job enhancement and enriched quality of life.  Leisure learning classes are non-credit  courses promoting personal enrichment, enjoyment, and self-empowerment.

2026 Seed To Table Series: Savor The Taste of Tradition (Tuesday, Jun. 30th) 5:00pm - 7:30pm

Join us for a unique culinary adventure where you’ll learn the ins and outs of growing and cooking with seasonal fresh produce, straight from the earth. Our Master Gardeners will guide you through the process, sharing tips and tricks to make the most of your harvest. In our class, we’ll be cooking up a storm with fresh tomatoes, corn, okra, and much more, inspired by the classic dishes of classic Southern cooks.

Discover the fundamentals of baking with yeast in this hands-on bread-making class. Participants will learn helpful tips, common mistakes to avoid, and best practices for creating successful yeast breads at home. Each student will receive a recipe card to take home and leave with a freshly baked loaf of bread. This class provides a strong foundation for anyone interested in exploring more advanced bread baking and working with yeast. All ingredients and supplies are included.

2026 WALKER: Chicken Butchery Basics (Tuesday, Jul. 21st) 6:00pm -7:30pm

This hands-on Chicken Butchery Basics class teaches participants the essential skills needed to safely and efficiently break down a whole chicken into its primary cuts. Students will learn proper knife handling, basic butchery techniques, and how to identify and separate the breast, wings, thighs, drumsticks, and carcass for stock production. Each participant will receive recipes specifically designed for each cut, helping them maximize flavor and minimize waste in their home kitchen. By the end of the class, students will have the confidence to process whole chickens on their own and will have the option to purchase a basic butchery knife to continue practicing at home.
