Foundations of Psychopharmacology for Practitioners

Attendees will be able to:

·       Identify the major classes of psychotropic medications, common indications, and frequently encountered side effects.

·       Recognize common adverse effects, medication interactions, and warning signs that require prompt referral to the prescribing provider.

·       Explain the therapist's role in supporting medication adherence, monitoring treatment response, and collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare providers.

·       Apply psychopharmacology knowledge to improve assessment, treatment planning, and client education.

·       Develop effective communication strategies to discuss medications with clients while remaining within the therapist's scope of practice.

Social Workers:  This is approved for 3.0 Clinical CE Hours.  The Southeastern Social Work Program is a LABSWE-approval organization.

Christy Cook Perry, DNP, PMHNP, is an Associate Professor at Southeastern Louisiana University's School of Nursing, bringing over 32 years of direct clinical experience to the classroom. Her career in the mental health field spans both inpatient and outpatient settings, where she has provided care to patients across the lifespan. She has taught as an adjunct faculty since 2006 and became a full-time professor in 2017. She teaches the courses in the graduate psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner program.
