Dr. Toland is an adoptee and clinical social worker with 25 years of experience in child welfare, community mental health, social welfare advocacy, and education. Her scholarship centers on adoption trauma, post-permanency outcomes, child welfare policy, and the impact of anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion policies on children and families. She developed the Adoption Trauma Spectrum, a lifespan framework addressing identity, attachment, belongingness, and systems impact. Dr. Toland maintains a private practice and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work at the University of West Florida.
